Join PCEC and Trout Unlimited for a hands-on Community Stewardship Field Day on on Tuesday, Aug 11, 9 AM- 12 PM.
We’ll meet on Brackett Creek road, at the confluence of Fox and Brackett Creek, to look at practical, integrated ways landowners and community members can improve stream resilience, wildlife habitat, and intact grasslands. Parking is limited, so we’ll organize a carpool meeting at 8:15am from the Lincoln School (215 E Lewis St, Livingston, MT).
What to Expect:
Tour an Active Restoration Site: Ashley Brubaker (Trout Unlimited) will guide us through her ongoing stream bank restoration project, where we’ll discuss site history, adaptive management, and future restoration goals for Brackett Creek. We’ll even have a chance to check out a beaver dam, a real-life example of drought resilience in action!
Weed Talk & Plant Identification: Bethany Allen (PCEC) will lead a plant walk along the channel to identify native plants and invasive species on site. We will discuss some best stewardship practices to manage noxious weeds.
Hands-on Stewardship: Taylor Brandt (PCEC) will lead a 1-hour community weed-clipping activity to protect a local wildlife habitat and stream restoration. Removing these invasive weeds allows deep-rooted perennial native plants to establish.
Lunch & Conservation Leadership: Alecia Jongeword (PCEC) will close out the morning by guiding a discussion over lunch on how to turn stewardship, advocacy, and water conservation into leadership skills you can use to promote drought resilience in your community.
What to Bring: Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes suitable for uneven terrain. Bring a water bottle and sun protection.
We will provide all necessary tools, work gloves, and lunch.
This event is free and open to landowners, community members, youth and families.
