Community Conversation — Livingston Loves Bees
Learn from local committee experts; Clay Bolt, Michelle Toshack, and PCEC’s Bethany Allen, to explore the challenges facing pollinators, including the concerning decline of the western and two-spotted bumble bee. Discover practical strategies for enhancing habitat in your backyard and how to minimize harmful impacts to our native pollinator species.
Why is this so important in Livingston? The western bumble bee used to be the most common bumble bee in the western US, and is declining across its range. This bee, however, is found right here in Livingston and we need to better understand where this bee is found and what habitats it is using. There are a number of reasons for the decline of this species, including pathogens from commercial bees, habitat loss, and pesticides. We have a real chance to make a difference.
