Today is DAF day
Sunset over the crazy mountains.
Today is DAF Day, a national day of giving that encourages people with donor-advised funds to put their charitable dollars to work for the places and causes they care about.
Here in Park County, we know how much it matters to have people paying attention.
Earlier this year, a proposal for an 80-acre, twenty-plus-year gravel mine and asphalt plant in the heart of Paradise Valley suddenly came roaring back.
Because PCEC walks the fence at night, we were ready.
We immediately alerted the community, organized our members, and made sure residents had the information they needed to make their voices heard. More than 1,500 people signed a petition opposing the proposal, hundreds submitted comments, and concerned citizens packed public meetings. In April, the Park County Commission, which had initially drafted a letter supporting the pit, voted unanimously to sign a letter opposing it.
That is what can happen when a community is informed, organized, and ready to act. That is what can happen when we show up.
If you have a donor-advised fund, will you put your charitable dollars to work for Park County this DAF Day?
Your gift helps PCEC keep watch when a threat is still over the horizon, respond quickly when our community needs a voice, and do the patient, less visible work that can prevent the next crisis before it even happens.
To recommend a donation in support of place-based conservation, you can go through your institution’s grant-making process and recommend a contribution to Park County Environmental Council. Our tax ID is 36-3699660.
Park County is changing. Together, we can help shape what comes next.
